Reiki is a form of hands-on healing that originated in India and the East thousands of years before Buddha or Christ. It was rediscovered by a Japanese Scholar and monk named Dr. Mikao Usui at the end of the nineteenth century.
Reiki is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the understanding that an unseen, universal life force energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.
We are all connected to this universal energy and are born with the instinct and wisdom to heal.
The word Reiki is Japanese word meaning universal life force that is pronounced Ray-Key. “Rei” means universal, omnipresent – present everywhere at the same time. “Ki” is the non-physical energy that gives life to all living beings. It is the essence of the soul.
Ki is also known as Chi by the Chinese, Prana by some Asian cultures, and the Holy Spirit by many of the western world. Reiki is best understood as “spiritually guided life force energy” that can be activated for the purpose of healing.
When one’s life force energy is low, the person is more susceptible to get sick or feel stress and emotional turmoil. When one’s life force energy is high, the person is happier and healthier. Reiki works by promoting balance in the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies and can help alleviate suffering.
I offer Reiki trainings in the lineage of Dr. Mikao Usui (1865-1926) at all levels, Level I through Master Level. Trainings are offered as one-day intensives in an intimate, small group environment at the Wildflower Botanica healing studio and gardens. The day is designed to hold you in ceremony infused in reverence, beauty and connection. Ongoing mentoring, guided practice opportunities, and apprenticeships are offered for those dedicated to learning and training to the Master Level.
"REIKI NOT ONLY HEALS DISEASES, BUT ALSO AMPLIFIES INNATE ABILITIES, BALANCES THE SPIRIT, AND MAKES THE BODY HEALTHY. IF REIKI IS SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, IT WILL BE HELPFUL FOR MANY PEOPLE, AND WILL NOT ONLY HEAL DISEASE, BUT ALSO THE EARTH AS A WHOLE."
- Dr. Mikao Usui

For January's Annual Health & Wellness issue, Coastside magazine’s Emma Spaeth sat down with Kelly Koski for an in-depth conversation about the origins of Wildflower Botanica, the interconnected nature of healing practices, and the philosophy that guides her work.
